Life Lessons Along the River Bottom

by Derek Baune

The river bottom was where my brother and I grew up. Hunting and fishing there shaped who I am as a person today. I learned about wildlife, the importance of conservation and respect for the land. It’s where I first understood more clearly who I am as a person, and the experiences helped develop my love for photography. My most important life decisions are made when I’m out there because I find I have a sense of clarity I can’t get anywhere else.

Spring brings a fresh start, a clean slate. Everything about spring, the sounds, the smells, the brisk air, feels like a rebirth. When April comes, there are few things I look forward to more than spending time in the woods with family.

This short video captures and illustrates that experience.
